Watercolor Feathers

Unfortunately I need to build up my Sympathy card stash. Lately is seems like I'm having to send one out more often that I would like. :(

I made this simple feather card using PTI's Feather Finery which definitely has not gotten as much ink lately. I used two different shades of purple but before I stamped it, I sprayed the stamp with a mist of water to diffuse the colors. I panicked a little after I stamped because I forgot to use watercolor paper so there were pools of ink on my card stock after I stamped. Thank goodness for my heat gun which dried it up quickly before the paper had a chance to warp. For a little bit of texture without adding another layer, I heat embossed the dots over the watercolor feathers in a charcoal grey.

I was inspired to add water to my feathers by the newly created Virginia's View Challenge (Congrats Virginia! I think your new challenge blog is gonna be a hit!) and the One-Layer Simplicity challenge. I wanted to pair watercolor and feathers in a different way than I did for the card set I made for the PTI February Blog Hop.

I've been having fun with watercolors lately so I'm loving this current trend. I love that watercolors don't have to be so precise and they looks so 'artsy' without trying too hard. Thanks for taking a look.

  1. First of all, thank you, Sherrie, for the kind words about the new VV Challenge! It's friends like YOU that will make it a success!! That subtle water with purple ink really made the feather more vibrant! LOVE that effect! And I love what you said about water-colors... :) So glad that you share your talent with us!

  4. So sorry that you are needing so many sympathy cards. This one is especially beautiful. I really like the PTI feathers--they are so large and dramatic. But, even I cannot justify a 3rd feather set.
